Service Design Thinking for Educators

Starting from IDEActivity toolkit, the Service Design Thinking guide for Teachers has been developed within the project “Innovative Design of School Educational Processes”, created to meet the current training needs of teachers of all levels. This Guide, produced in a collaborative form and available on the website www.innovazioneinclasse.it, contains design processes and methods specifically adapted to the training context. It offers new ways of being collaborative in the design phase, and enables teachers to create high-impact solutions. It outlines a sequence of steps leading from defining a challenge to building an innovative solution. The guide offers a variety of tools to choose from, with concise explanations, suggestions and useful advice; it is an object in progress, which has been enriched by the pilot experiences conducted in the class of innovative teachers and later also by other teachers who have used the method after the dissemination activities.

This guide is a support to all teachers who wish to identify and experiment new ways of working with pupils, of maintaining active dialogue within the teaching staff, and between teachers and parents. The feature of this guide is to be flexible. It provides a fixed, standard, and open structure, ready to be completed together and implemented over time by all teachers who want to innovate in the classroom.
The Service Design process is what puts Design Thinking into action. It is a structured process aimed at generating and bringing ideas to maturity. It is built from four phases that guide the evolution of design from the identification of the theme to the realization of a solution and its experimentation.
